Marin forsøpling

ASAP – Asian Scientific Alliance for Plastic Pollution and Value Network Management, target key sources and socioeconomic drivers of marine litter in Asia's three largest countries: China, India and Indonesia. The project deliver quantitative assessments of plastic litter releases from source hotspots in the three countries, asses critical interlinkages between plastics waste and chemical pollution and improve the understanding of the socioeconomic determinants of plastic waste mismanagement. The project will also host a knowledge hub and a network secretariat for research and stakeholders in the region. The project is financed by The Research Council of Norway (grant agreement no. 302575).

‎
The specific objectives of the project is to

  1. Unfold and compare the functioning of representative plastic waste value networks (PWVN) in selected Asian case studies.
    ‎

  2. Quantitatively assess the flows of plastic waste through the PWVN nodes and towards the aquatic and marine environment.
    ‎

  3. Empirically assess releases and transports of plastic litter and associated hazardous substances from the largest global contributors in hot-spot Asian countries to the coastal areas.
    ‎

  4. Establish an international knowledge hub (KH) devoted to collecting, critically reviewing and openly disseminating existing data/metadata and knowledge covering socioeconomic aspects, waste management, and plastic pollution sources, pressures and impacts in key Asian countries.
    ‎

‎

The International Knowledge Hub Against Plastic Pollution collect, critically analyse and disseminate scientific knowledge to support effective policies and actions to fight plastic pollution globally. IKHAPP comprises a community of concerned scientists in relevant scientific areas, committed to work towards an environment free from plastic pollution.
