Knowledge Needs in Aquaculture Site Applications
Together with Henrik Hareide, SALT is mapping the knowledge needs related to the processing of aquaculture site applications based on current practices.
Access to new, suitable areas is essential for the continued development and growth of the aquaculture industry. Ongoing advances in technical and operational solutions are changing what is considered suitable sites. The same applies to developments in biological challenges in production, as well as the growing knowledge base on how different aquaculture activities affect the surrounding environment.
The project is funded by the Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF). Its goal is to provide recommendations for future R&D priorities by mapping the reasons for rejection of aquaculture applications, and by assessing whether the application of the precautionary principle or other rejection grounds are linked to issues where better knowledge is required.
