Knowledge about shrimp fishing in the Oslofjord

Marine Management

Together with the Institute of Marine Research and Menon Economics, SALT is carrying out the project Synthesis of knowledge on shrimp fishing in the Oslofjord, funded by FHF.

Shrimp fishing in the Oslofjord takes place in an area facing significant environmental challenges and increasing regulatory measures. As of 1 January 2026, three no-fishing zones have been introduced as part of efforts to improve the environmental condition of the fjord. At the same time, several stakeholders have pointed out that existing mapping data does not sufficiently reflect where and how shrimp fishing is actually conducted. An updated and agreed-upon knowledge base is therefore essential to ensure both sustainable management and predictable operating conditions for the industry.
The project aims to compile and analyze available knowledge on current and historical shrimp fishing, develop more precise maps of trawling activity, assess the economic impacts of new regulations, and identify knowledge gaps that should be prioritized in future research and management.
