JustFish – Preventing Fisheries Crime

Marine Management

From 2021 to 2024, SALT is participating in a major research project supported by the Research Council of Norway. Using interdisciplinary methods, JustFish investigates how fisheries crime can be prevented. The project examines, among other things, the drivers and motivations for breaking regulations, as well as how the use of sanctions and penalties can contribute to increased compliance.

The project is led by Nofima, with key contributors from SALT, the Norwegian College of Fishery Science (UiT The Arctic University of Norway), and a criminology research group at the University of Manchester. In addition, Norges Råfisklag, Seafood Norway, and Fiskarlaget Nord are partners. The project is also supported by a reference group with representatives from both government and industry.
