Rock n’roll Kråkeboll (Sea Urchin)

Coastal Development

What happens when the wolffish disappears and sea urchins take over the seafloor? In the autumn of 2026, we invite school classes and families with children to Jektefartsmuseet in Bodø to become part of the solution.
Through a three-hour event, we combine knowledge, action, and creativity. Participants will first gain engaging insight into how changes in ecosystems and the loss of top predators can lead to sea urchin barrens without kelp forests. Then we put on our boots and head down to the shoreline to remove sea urchins that threaten life beneath the surface.
Finally, we gather for a sea urchin hackathon. How can we use the resource we have harvested? Could it become lampshades, candle holders, or something entirely unexpected?
The project is supported by Avinor New Airport Bodø as part of the grant scheme for nature initiatives in Bodø Municipality.
