Plastic Detectives of Portugal

Marine Litter

Plastic Detectives of Portugal is a collaboration between SALT and the Portuguese science center, the Algarve Ciência Viva Interactive Science Centre (CCVAlg). The project aims to raise awareness and knowledge about marine litter among 350 school students aged 13–15 attending so-called Blue Schools located near Faro, Portugal.

Through participation in beach clean-ups organized by CCVAlg, lessons on marine litter, and a SALT workshop where students take a deep dive into the waste they have collected, the students will be challenged to engage in data collection through litter registration, reflect on the sources of pollution, and explore ways to prevent the problem both locally and globally.

The project is supported by the EEA Grants program for "Blue Growth"
