Deposit Scheme for Fishing Pots – Feasibility Study

Marine Litter

The project will assess how a deposit scheme for fishing pots (traps) can be introduced and what consequences it may have for the fishing industry as well as for recreational fishing. Furthermore, the project will identify shortcomings in the current system for implementing such a scheme in the fisheries sector and evaluate the development of a digital solution to support information flow related to the scheme.

To achieve the project’s objectives, we focus on exploring the needs and possibilities of establishing schemes for both commercial and recreational fishing. Through a thorough study and needs analysis, we aim to develop a system that is practical and applicable for both industry and recreational fishers, while directly addressing the environmental challenge. Developing this system will require trade-offs of a socio-economic nature—linked to price and efficiency—as well as more practical considerations concerning handling and implementation.

The project is led by Menon Economics, with SALT as a project partner.
