Feasibility Study for a National Seabird Experience Centre
Vardø Municipality is exploring the idea of establishing a national seabird experience centre in Vardø. The ambition is to develop a knowledge and experience centre that communicates the importance of seabirds while also strengthening tourism development in the region.
SALT is leading a feasibility study to assess the basis for establishing a future centre. The project is built on dialogue with Vardø Municipality, local businesses, and other key stakeholders, and combines SALT’s experience in communication, exhibition development, and expertise in seabirds and coastal environments.
The feasibility study will provide recommendations for the way forward and address key questions related to content, target groups, organization, and operations. Through meetings and a digital public survey, the project gathers perspectives from the local community, businesses, and public stakeholders. The work aims to ensure broad local support and identify how a seabird experience centre can create value as a knowledge arena, cultural attraction, and driver for local development.
Among other things, the study will assess which themes and experiences the centre should include, who should be involved as partners, relevant operational models, and possible locations. The final result will be a recommendation for further development and a knowledge base that can support future processes and funding applications.
