Childrens Nature
"Children’s Nature" is a project that gives children and young people opportunity to influence how nature in their local area is used and cared for. Children interact with their local natural surroundings in many different ways, yet their experiences and perspectives are rarely visible when decisions regarding nature are made.
Through the "Nature Dialogue" pupils work outdoors in their local natural environment to explore, reflect on, and articulate what nature means to them. The children’s own experiences and perspectives are central to this process: How do they use nature? What do they notice? What matters to them - and what do they think we should preserve? The children`s input is gathered and compiled into a "Children’s Management Plan" that aims to highlight how children use and value local nature, and to convey their perspectives to municipalities and local decision-makers. In this way, children learn that their own observations, opinions, and wishes can make a difference in how we care for the nature around us.
The project is conducted as a pilot in Sandefjord, Tønsberg, and Færder, with the goal of developing a model that can subsequently be adopted by more schools and municipalities.
